Hi..
I am Jaspreet and I am the ceramic artist and owner of ‘Ceramics by Jas’. I currently live in the beautiful city-state of Singapore and this is where I started my clay journey in 2020. Can you believe it all started in a spare room in our apartment?
Now, here's a fun fact about me: I'm an MBA by qualification and spent a good decade working in the financial services industry. But you know what they say, life has a funny way of revealing our true passions. And for me, that passion turned out to be clay. I couldn't be happier about it! I do wish I had discovered my love for clay earlier but I've come to appreciate the experiences that led me here. For me, true success is all about finding contentment and joy in what we do.
My Studio
My first studio was nothing more than a guest room with a less-than-inspiring view. But it served me well for 2 whole years during the pandemic. It's amazing what we can achieve with limited resources and a whole lot of determination. However, as my dreams grew, so did my need for a bigger space. And now, I'm delighted to say that I've moved into a beautiful studio flooded with natural light. It's spacious enough to store everything I need for my expanding business. This new oasis is where I bring my ideas and imagination to life, with the aim of adding beauty and joy to people's everyday lives.
My inspiration
It is said that clay has memory and is temperamental. But with patience and love, you can mold it into breathtaking forms that seamlessly blend art and functionality. That's precisely where I draw my inspiration from. I strive to create pottery that not only serves a purpose but also brings a sense of elegance and beauty into your life. When you can see, touch, and enjoy a functional piece of art every single day, it's truly magical.
I absolutely love working with colours and textures- as is apparent from my work. Some of my pieces exude a romantic vintage vibe, reminiscent of bygone eras. Others transport me to the picturesque Mediterranean, with its mesmerizing blue hues. And then there are those that capture the essence of the charming English countryside. Each piece tells its own story, reflecting the inspiration behind it.
To Travel is to live...
To me, travel is not just a way to see the world; it's a way to truly live. It's a motto I try to embrace. My adventures across Europe have inspired a lot of my work in terms of textures, colors and forms. From the intricate vintage laces of Venice to the vibrant blue tiles of Lisbon and the breathtaking rooftops of Santorini, you'll often find glimpses of these experiences and elements in my creations. Travel sparks my creativity and ignites my imagination, allowing me to infuse my pieces with a touch of wanderlust.
Clay and magic..
Working with clay feels like pure magic. Being able to bring my imagination and creativity to life through ceramics is truly a blessing. Creating every piece with my own hands with a boundless intent and gratitude towards this art, makes it an absolutely exhilarating experience.
I believe every piece crafted by hand has its own story, its own inspiration and an imprint of the maker's hands. The time, thought and patience behind each handmade piece is what makes it truly unique.
